Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Receives $100,000 Grant from Principal® Foundation

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle received word of approval for a $100,000 grant from Principal® Foundation. This generous grant has been put forward to fund ongoing programming of the Food Shuttle for the period of one year. The Food Shuttle eagerly anticipates a positive, productive relationship with Principal Foundation, who is a new funder for the organization.

With an eye on the Food Shuttle’s continuing work toward Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, the Principal Foundation issued an invitation to the Food Shuttle to apply for the national grant award monies. Supporting a wide range of initiatives to advance financial security, the Principal Foundation has confirmed their backing for the Food Shuttle’s varied and distinctive hunger relief programming with the issuance of this grant.

“The Principal Foundation’s mission is to foster financial security for all. We advance our mission by supporting organizations that provide innovative, effective services that build people’s capacity to pursue and maintain financial security on their terms,” said Jo Christine Miles, director of Principal Foundation and Principal Community Relations. “Access to food that both eases the pangs of hunger and nourishes the body and mind are fundamental to individuals having the wherewithal to seek and achieve financial security. The Food Shuttle meets that fundamental need, meeting people where they are throughout North Carolina – at schools, pantries, and other community locations – when they need it – on a recurring basis or during a crisis – across a broad set of the demographic – from children to older adults. We look forward to seeing how Inter-Faith Food Shuttle will continue to positively impact and change lives.”

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle envisions a hunger free community, achieved through their mission to feed, teach, grow, and cultivate innovative approaches to end hunger. This is done by engaging communities facing hunger to understand their unique needs and barriers. Then by building relationships and engaging neighbors, the Food Shuttle creates programs and initiatives that meet specific needs, breaking the cycle of poverty, restoring dignity, and improving the health of the community. For over 30 years, the Food Shuttle has served the seven counties of central NC and is a member of the Feeding America network of 200 food banks across the nation.

“We are very pleased to receive the affirmation of our work through the grant funding from the Principal Foundation,” said L. Ron Pringle, President and CEO of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. “This funding partnership will make huge strides as we move forward in our work of addressing hunger in our community, while ensuring that all our neighbors have equitable access to the resources available.”
