John Rex Endowment Awards Planning Grant to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle for Urban Agriculture Project

The John Rex Endowment announces the approval of a planning grant of $81,789 for Inter-Faith Food Shuttle to work with the Southeast Raleigh community to develop a plan for an urban agriculture project to address low access to healthy foods. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle will work with members of food insecure neighborhoods, and together they will develop a plan to bring healthy and affordable foods to Southeast Raleigh. The plan will include steps to empower youth and their families to grow and sell their own fresh food.

"The healthy weight of children is clearly a public health concern, and the availability of nutritious food can make a big difference," said Kevin Cain, president and CEO of the John Rex Endowment. "Involving families in plans to grow, prepare, and share their own fruits and vegetables is a very promising approach."
