No Kid Hungry

NC Child Hunger Leaders Conference

More than one in four children in North Carolina have insufficient food to grow and be active, according to recent data. No Kid Hungry North Carolina is a partnership launched in September 2011 with the national nonprofit Share Our Strength and state leaders to connect children with nutritious food. It works with government, nonprofits and businesses to bring resources and solutions to the growing child hunger issue in North Carolina. Today the NC chapter of No Kid Hungry is holding their NC Child Hunger Leaders Conference in Chapel Hill.  Leaders in the fight against childhood hunger will be convening, including a workshop with the Food Shuttle’s very own: Kyle Abrams!  Visit www.nokidhungry.org to see the work being done in our communities and around the country.

One in five children under age 18 right here in the Triangle are hungry. Heartbreakingly, that number jumps to one in four children under age 5.

Food Network and No Kid Hungry team up for the new documentary, "Hunger Hits Home," airing April 14 on Food Network, narrated by Jeff Bridges, national spokesman for No Kid Hungry. Hunger Hits Home takes a first-hand look at the crisis of childhood hunger in America through the eyes of the people on the frontlines of the battle - parents and children, anti-hunger activists, educators, and politicians committed to eradicating the problem. Hunger Hits Home examines the causes, complications, and misconceptions about childhood hunger in the United States, as well as some of the innovative solutions being put into practice today. The documentary tells the story of three American families facing hunger and takes a close up look at the impact hunger has on a child. It also provides a potent and urgent call to action - something everyone can do to make a difference.
