CBS 17 Volunteers with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle on the 2019 Nexstar Founder's Day of Caring

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle welcomes employees from CBS 17 to the Food Shuttle Farm and Child Food Hub for a Day of Caring.

Monday, June 17, is Nexstar Media’s 2019 Founder’s Day of Caring! To commemorate the holiday, CBS 17 employees spent their Monday donating their time and talent working in service to the community.

Our CBS 17 team worked with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Durham, the Food Shuttle Farm in Raleigh and the Urban Ministry in Fayetteville.

Groups worked to support these worthy organizations by assembling and providing grocery bags for seniors, sorting food donations for Backpack Buddies which are filled with essential meals and snacks for children in need of emergency food relief, and helping the warehouse staff with food recovery sorting.

Another group of our adventurous CBS 17’ers went out on the farm and assisted farm staff pulling weeds, transplanting crops and preparing produce for distribution.

We at CBS 17 are proud to care about our community and encourage all businesses to consider a similar effort and come together for the greater good of the community in a tangible way.

A Tucson, Arizona, urban farm brings residents better nutrition and builds community. It’s a win-win. An example of a different agricultural approach is Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, which serves seven North Carolina counties, recovering and gleaning about 6 million pounds of food a year that would otherwise have gone to waste.

Activate Raleigh and Urban Ag Training at IFFS

Last week in honor of 9/11, we were thrilled to have volunteers all across the Triangle help Inter-Faith Food Shuttle pack bags for BackPack Buddies, work on our Wake County Teaching Farm, and prep our new Urban Agriculture Training Center! Volunteers signed up as part of Activate Good's Activate Raleigh Day of Service. Check out the photos from the work day at our Urban Ag Training Center - volunteers scraped paint off the windows (the building used to be an old skating rink), took up old carpet, washed walls to prep for painting, swept and mopped the floors, primed and painted walls, and helped with some maintenance outside. What amazing transformation can happen with the power of volunteers!

Wondering what will take place in our new Urban Ag Training Center? For one thing, Urban Ag training workshops! First up, we have both community and youth urban ag workshops!

We are proud to announce our first annual Plant the Pavement! Workshop Series, a collaborative effort to bring Growing Power's innovative model of food production and community empowerment to North Carolina.

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is the only Growing Power Regional Outreach Training Center  in North Carolina, and the only one in the country with a focus on training young people.
