We are excited about welcoming Ron Ross into the Food Shuttle family—and we know great things are on the horizon!
Ron’s career decisions have always been about service—having spent most of his adult life serving in our Navy. He comes to the Food Shuttle after spending two years as Director of Administration & Operations at the Water Institute at UNC. In conjunction with the Gillings School of Global Public Health and the department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, the Water Institute’s mission is to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for all. As gratifying and important as that job was, Ron was excited about taking the lead in Food Recovery & Distribution (FRD) to expand access to nutritious food throughout the seven counties of the Greater Triangle.
Ron, who is married with two children, stated, “I am looking forward to a different sort of challenge. It is important to find a niche where you can serve and help others, and I wanted to be able to do so closer to home. I am drawn to the local and humanitarian aspects of the Food Shuttle’s mission.”
“I intend to focus on improving our efficiency and effectiveness. We need to be able to provide more nutritious food to more people at a lower cost,” he says. “As stewards of donated funds, we must strive to be as responsible and efficient as possible. We want every dollar donated to provide a bigger impact to the communities that we serve.”
We look forward to Ron’s leadership in these areas as he moves FRD in positive new directions!
