NC Secretary of State commits to combat hunger through Service Project for Backpack Buddies

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NC Secretary of State commits to combat hunger through Service Project for Backpack Buddies

Raleigh - The Secretary of State’s Annual Holiday Service Project collected over 2,000 food items for Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s BackPack Buddies program during the month of December.

Secretary of State Marshall and department staff will further show their dedication to fighting hunger by volunteering at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Headquarters in Raleigh and packing bags of healthy food for BackPack Buddies this Wednesday at 10:30am.

“We are grateful for Secretary Marshall and her staff’s decision to make BackPack Buddies a beneficiary of their Holiday Service Project,” said Jill Staton Bullard, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. “The donated food will soon be in the hands of children who would have otherwise gone without this holiday season.”

BackPack Buddies exists as a solution to the problem of 91,000 children on free or reduced school lunch programs in the Greater Triangle who might be at-risk of going hungry over the weekend. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle provides 6 nutritious meals and 2 snacks to nearly 800 kids each weekend during the school year.
