Annual Events

Blossoms of Hope
Each spring, the beautiful Second Empire restaurant in downtown Raleigh, hosts its annual fundraiser for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. The gala luncheon, Blossoms of Hope, features wines and courses created by guest chefs from noted local restaurants and is assisted by the students of our Culinary Job Training Program!

Empty Bowls
Since 1990, Empty Bowls events have been held throughout the United States and the world to raise money to fight hunger. Durant Road and Ligon Middle Schools have hosted events that benefit the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Students integrate visual arts, cooking, public speaking, and writing skills, as well as social awareness.   Participants then make a small monetary donation and receive a hearty meal served up in a hand-crafted keepsake ceramic bowl. For more information on Empty Bowls, see www.emptybowls.net .

National Hunger Awareness Day and the Great Potato Drop
Click Here to View Images from National Hunger Awareness Day!
National Hunger Awareness Day was created in early 2002. Annually observed, the first week in June, it is an effort to raise awareness of, and make donations to end, hunger in America. To learn more, visit www.hungerday.org. Every year on National Hunger Awareness Day, the Food Shuttle, the North Carolina State Farmer Market, and the Society of St. Andrew, sponsor this sweet potato collection.   In one morning, over 200 volunteers sort, bag, and deliver North Carolina's state vegetable to the hungry, the elderly, and low income working families throughout a seven-county area.   Volunteers are always welcome! Contact Emily for more information.

Harvest Feast
Harvest Feast began in Charlotte in 2002 and has quickly grown into Harris Teeter's premier community building event.   It is held in the Triangle each autumn. In 2005 this event was held at the RBC Center to enable us to include Wake, Durham, and Orange counties. Guests receive a free holiday meal, enjoy live music and entertainment, and kids receive a free gift.   Transportation to and from selected locations is provided by buses from Capital Area Transit (CAT) and Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA).   This is the perfect place for fun and fellowship for those struggling to make ends meet! To volunteer contact Emily.

Week of Giving
This is an easy chance for the public to help while shopping at the NC State Farmer Market! Our partner, and major donor, the Farmer Market, collects canned goods, fresh produce and financial support for the Food Shuttle with this holiday event.
